What is ClosedTester and how does the peer-to-peer exchange work?
ClosedTester is a mutual, community-driven testing exchange platform created specifically for independent Android developers. Google Play Console policies require all personal developer accounts to run closed tests with at least 20 active testers for 14 continuous days before requesting production access.
Our platform operates on a fair give-and-take model: developers test each other's applications to earn escrow credits and recruit authentic volunteer testers for their own apps. It is 100% free to join and use!
Why is there a rule requiring me to enroll in 3 apps before publishing my campaign?
We enforce this rule politely to protect all community members and maintain a vibrant, active ecosystem! To ensure that every developer receives high-quality, dedicated testers for their apps, new accounts are asked to enroll in and submit initial installation proof for 3 apps from other developers.
How does the 1-to-1 reciprocal exchange ratio work?
Our platform is built on direct 1-to-1 reciprocity. Every app campaign you enroll in and test for another developer yields 1 volunteer tester slot for your own application!
For example, if you test 12 apps for fellow developers, you gain the exact capacity to recruit 12 active volunteer testers for your campaign. The more you test, the more testers you recruit!
What happens if my active campaigns exceed my contribution balance?
Our system maintains fairness through automated balance checks (active_campaigns * 3 <= lifetime_contributions). If your active campaign count exceeds your contribution threshold, your newest active campaign will be automatically paused to maintain system balance.
As soon as you enroll in additional testing assignments and restore your contributions, your campaign automatically resumes without losing any progress!
How do testers join my Google Play closed test?
When you register a campaign, you provide your Google Group opt-in link or direct Play Store opt-in URL. Volunteer testers join your Google Group, opt in on the Play Store, download your application to their physical Android device, and upload an installation screenshot as proof.
What is the 24-Hour Lazy Cron Auto-Approval system?
We know developers are busy! Whenever a tester submits an initial installation proof or daily check-in screenshot, the developer is given 24 hours to review and verify it.
What are Daily Check-Ins and when can I submit app feedback?
Google Play Console requires testers to remain continuously active over the 14-day testing period. To prove authentic engagement, testers perform a quick daily check-in by uploading a fresh daily screenshot of the app running on their phone device.
When can I submit feedback? You can submit honest ratings, bug reports, and suggestions anytime after successful enrollment (and update your review whenever needed). Finalizing your feedback review by Day 14 completes your testing cycle and releases your escrow credit reward!
Is ClosedTester really 100% free?
Yes, absolutely 100%! Every feature, tool, and campaign on ClosedTester is completely free of charge. No money, credit cards, or payments are ever requested from anyone for anything!
The platform operates strictly on a mutual give-and-take credit system: you earn credits 100% for free by testing apps for fellow developers, and you spend those earned credits to recruit testers for your own apps.
How do reciprocal credits work for campaigns?
Campaign launches use community escrow credits that you earn 100% for free by testing apps. Depositing credits per requested tester slot holds them safely in escrow. Upon successful completion of a 14-day testing cycle, earned credits are awarded to the volunteer tester. No real money is ever involved.
If you delete or archive an active campaign, all unallocated escrow credits are immediately refunded back to your account balance!
What are Tester Ranks and Campaign Discounts?
The more testing cycles you complete for fellow developers, the higher your Tester Rank badge climbs, unlocking exclusive discounts on future campaign launches:

How does ClosedTester protect my personal privacy?
Your privacy is our highest priority! Every screenshot uploaded to ClosedTester automatically undergoes EXIF GPS & Metadata Stripping before storage, wiping location data, camera information, and device identifiers.
Furthermore, testing via Google Groups isolates personal tester email addresses so developers never see your private Gmail address.
How does the platform prevent fake proofs or cheating?
We use automated cryptographic SHA-256 Image Hashing to detect and block duplicate image uploads. Fraudulent or reused proof submissions are flagged immediately, and developers can open admin-mediated disputes.
What account security features are available?
We support secure Google OAuth 2.0 Single Sign-On as well as local authentication with BCrypt password hashing, CSRF token verification on all forms, IP rate limiting, bot honeypot trap fields, and optional Two-Factor Authentication (TOTP) via Google Authenticator or Authy.
